Why Add Battery Storage to Your Home?

Solar panels generate the most energy during the day — but most households use the most electricity in the evening. Without a battery, that surplus energy gets exported back to the grid for a fraction of what you pay to buy it back later.

A home battery storage system captures that excess solar energy so you can use it when you need it most. This means lower bills, greater energy independence, and less reliance on rising grid prices. Even without solar panels, a battery can charge from cheap off-peak tariffs and discharge during expensive peak hours.

At Eleck Energy, we design and install battery storage systems tailored to your household's energy usage, ensuring you get the maximum return on your investment.

0% VAT on home battery storage until 31 March 2027, whether it's fitted with new solar panels, added to an existing system or installed on its own.

The Process

How Battery Storage Works

Battery storage is straightforward — here's how a typical home system operates throughout the day.

1

Solar Generates Energy

Your solar panels produce electricity during daylight hours, powering your home directly.

2

Excess Is Stored

Any surplus energy that your home doesn't immediately use is stored in your battery system.

3

Use Stored Energy

In the evening or on cloudy days, your home draws from the battery instead of the grid.

4

Smart Tariff Savings

With smart tariffs like Octopus Go, your battery can charge overnight at 7.5p/kWh and discharge during peak rates.

Why Choose Battery Storage

Benefits of Home Battery Storage

Whether paired with solar panels or used standalone, battery storage delivers real financial and practical benefits.

Cut Electricity Bills by Up to 70%

Combining solar panels with battery storage dramatically reduces your grid consumption. Most homeowners see savings of 60–70% on their annual electricity bills.

Energy Independence

Reduce your reliance on the National Grid and protect yourself from energy price rises. Your stored energy is yours to use whenever you need it.

Backup Power Protection

Many battery systems offer backup power during grid outages, keeping essential appliances running when the power goes down.

Lower Carbon Footprint

By storing and using clean solar energy instead of drawing from the grid, you significantly reduce your household's carbon emissions.

Smart Tariff Optimisation

Charge your battery overnight when electricity is cheapest and use the stored energy during peak-rate hours. Works perfectly with time-of-use tariffs.

Increase Property Value

Homes with solar and battery storage are increasingly attractive to buyers. An integrated energy system adds real value to your property.

Got Questions?

Battery Storage FAQs

Common questions about home battery storage systems.

No. While batteries work best when paired with solar panels, you can install a standalone battery system. It charges from the grid during off-peak hours (when electricity is cheapest) and discharges during peak hours, saving you money on time-of-use tariffs like Octopus Go, Intelligent Octopus, or Economy 7.
Most home batteries have a manufacturer warranty of 10–12 years and are rated for thousands of charge cycles. In practice, a well-maintained battery system can last 15+ years. GivEnergy and Tesla both offer strong warranty coverage on their residential products.
This depends on your daily energy consumption and solar panel output. A typical 3-bed home in the UK uses 8–10 kWh per day. We recommend a battery that can store at least half your daily usage. During your free survey, we'll analyse your energy data and recommend the optimal size.
Yes, in most cases. We regularly retrofit battery storage to existing solar installations. The process is straightforward and typically takes half a day. We'll check your current inverter compatibility and recommend the best solution — either an AC-coupled battery or a hybrid inverter upgrade.
Home battery storage is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027. That covers a battery fitted with new solar panels, one added to an existing solar system, and a standalone battery that charges from the grid. From 1 April 2027 the rate goes up to 5%.
It depends on the system. Some batteries like the Tesla Powerwall include backup power functionality as standard. GivEnergy offers an EPS (Emergency Power Supply) add-on. We'll discuss your backup power needs during the survey and recommend the right setup.
